Halloween Week: China Glaze Boog-ie Down

Wednesday, October 30, 2013

Hi, guys. It's Wednesday which means it's only one more day til Halloween! Are you guys all set for the Halloween festivities? I don't really have a costume this year but I plan on going out with some friends and checking out the neighborhood decorations. I love seeing the kids out and about in costume, too. It's just so cute! Anyway, Halloween week continues with a fun glitter topper from the China Glaze Monster's Ball collection. I knew I wanted this one when I saw it because it just screams Halloween to me. Boo-gie Down is filled with small and large hex glitter in white, orange and black in a clear base. There's also some bar glitter in there as well as regular glitter.

China Glaze Boog-ie Down

This is a really fun mix of glitters. The formula was quite nice on this and this is just 1 coat over Color Club Silver Lake. I did not have to do any fishing, though I did move some of the bigger pieces around my nail with the brush just to get optimal placement. You don't have to if you don't want to and there is plenty of glitter to go around. It wasn't super gritty either and I think I only used 1 coat of Poshe over this manicure.

If you like glitter, this is a really fun polish to have. I like that the orange is sort of a rust orange instead of the normal jack 'o' lantern shade. Signing out for today. Happy hump day, everyone!

Halloween Week: Jack Skellington Mani

Monday, October 28, 2013

OMG look! I actually have something ready in time for a themed/holiday week. It's really a miracle. I have been getting a Halloween manicure or two done every week for the past few weeks just so I would have something fun and Halloween-like this week. First up is a manicure inspired by Jack Skellington from A Nightmare Before Christmas.

Jack Skellington Mani

I actually saw something like this on Zoya's Instagram account which inspired me to try this. For  this look I used Kleancolor Black for all of the black creme accents and Cult Nails Tempest, an awesome white, for all of the white details. For accent nails, I used OPI Emotions from the new Mariah Carey holiday collection. It's a very cool textured black Liquid Sand. I will be reviewing it at a later date.

Jack Skellington Mani

I used a small brush for Jack's face and used tape to make the stripes. For my index finger and thumb I used 2 coats of Emotions without top coat. Other nails have Poshe top coat on them.

Jack Skellington Mani

This manicure was super easy to do and it looks great.  You could also do endless variations of this and play around with the accent nails. A quick and easy Halloween manicure. Thanks for coming by today. Stop by later this week for more Halloween nails. :)

Wet N Wild Disturbia

Saturday, October 26, 2013

Happy weekend, everyone! Is anyone else behind in their Halloween prep? I really wanted to have a costume this year but, of course, I didn't plan early enough and now I probably won't have time to really do anything. But that's OK because I still have lots of Halloween spirit and plan on having a good time, costume or no costume. Be on the lookout for some fun Halloween inspired nail art next week.

Wet N Wild Disturbia

This week I have Wet N Wild Disturbia, which is in their permanent line. I wasn't going to buy this one but I picked it up and saw the gorgeous shimmer and knew that it had to go home with me. Sadly, the shimmer that you see here is really only seen in full sunlight and it's hardly noticeable. The polish is extremely pigmented though, which is nice. In person it looks like a vampy purple. It's pretty, but nothing mind blowing.

Wet N Wild Disturbia

You can see the shimmer a little better here but it's very subtle. I used 2 coats for these swatches with Poshe top coat. I have to mention that I hated the brush on this. I haven't used one of the Mega Last polishes in a long time but I don't remember the brush being so awful. It's super wide and really square at the bottom. I have pretty small nails and the brush was wider than a lot of them and the square shape was hard to maneuver. I got polish everywhere and had to do a lot of clean up. I would not have minded as much if I loved the polish but this was not worth the effort.

Wet N Wild Disturbia

If you don't have a dark purple, this might be a nice addition to your collection and the price is definitely right ($1.99). But be prepared to work with the brush and do a little clean up.

That's it for me today. Hope you're all having a most wonderful weekend!

Cover Girl Pyro Pink

Wednesday, October 23, 2013

Hump  day is here again. It comes so quickly but also feels like it takes forever to get here. The mysteries of time, I suppose. This week I have another polish from the Cover Girl Catching Fire. Pink Pyro is a dark pink foil with silver and purple flecks in it. This one was definitely more foil-like than the last polish in the collection I tried. It's a very pretty shade that would look good on a variety of skin tones. Formula was good and I used 3 thin coats below with no topcoat. You could totally get away with only 2 coats but I found that with 2, it looked sheer in the sun. In person though you probably would not be able to tell.

You can see a bit of the purple peeking out at this angle.

I think it's pretty but it's not blowing me away. I think it might just seem a little boring compared to some of the other colors in the collection (at least to me). I like it though and can see myself busting it out when I am looking for an edgier pink.

That's what I have for you today. Let me know what you think of this polish in the comments below. Thanks!

Stashed (9): Essie, Revlon, Rimmel

Monday, October 21, 2013

Hi, everyone. I meant to post this over the weekend but I got really busy and did not get around to it until today. Hope you all had a fun weekend. Mine was pretty low key and I am sad that it is over. Here's a small haul from the past couple of weeks. I am still trying to be good and have been trying to refrain from picking up new polishes. Though there are a ton of fall drugstore releases, which is weakening my resolve.

Spotted the new Revlon Parfumerie collection at CVS thisi week. I love how vintage looking the bottles are - super feminine and classy. Since these are not limited edition, I refrained from buying a bunch and just picked up Autumn Spice, a cool looking brown/bronze glass fleck. Also picked up Essie Matte About You (been wanting to try that) and Essie Sunday Funday (the shimmer got me).

I also picked up this scattered blue holo by Nanoco. I can't remember the name right now. And then two polishes from the new Rimmel collection. These are duochromes. First one is Bronze Princess and the other is Gold Save The Queen. There's one more in the collection but I had something similar in my stash already.

I really haven't painted my nails too much in the last couple of weeks. It's been crazy busy and I have just been too tired to put much effort in my nails. Hopefully I'll be a little more inspired this week. Have a good week, everyone!

Color Club Silver Lake

Friday, October 18, 2013

Hello and happy Friday! I can't wait to start the weekend. It's been a long week and I really need the break. Hoping to finally see Gravity this weekend as well. Today I have Silver Lake by Color Club from their recent About Town collection. I was looking for a soft white/grey with a good formula that would work for nail art. Silver Lake is a super pale grey or white tinged with grey, depending on how you look at it. Formula was a bit streaky on the first coat but leveled out nicely on the second. Shown here with top coat.

I like this one a lot. It reminds me a lot of OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls but with a better formula. I can definitely see myself using it for nail art, so mission accomplished!

Thanks for coming by today. Hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

ulta3 Striking

Wednesday, October 16, 2013

Happy hump day, everyone. This week is going by really slowly but my friend got us advance screening passes to the Veronica Mars movie tonight so that's pretty exciting. Well today I have a polish from an Aussie brand called ulta3. I got this in the swap I did with The Bookish Manicurist a while back. I was really excited when the Glitterati collection came out and Mandee was kind enough to track some of them down for me.

Striking is a gorgeous aqua blue foil that is super sparkly. Really nice formula on this and I used 2 coats for all this foil-y goodness. I did not use a top coat for this swatch.

I have been impressed with all of the polishes that I have tried so far from this brand. I really wish we could get it in the States but I guess we shall have to rely on our Aussie friends. If you like foil finishes and can get your hands on this, do it. I love this sparkly, fun polish.

Short post today. Hope your week is going great. Anyone start doing Halloween nails yet? I actually have some Halloween nail art on this week, which you'll see closer to the actual holiday. Have a great day!

Wet N Wild ATTEN-Hut!

Monday, October 14, 2013

Good morning! Hope your Monday is off to a good start. I had a jam packed weekend and could use another day to recover but that's not going to happen so I'll just have a big cup of coffee. :) Today I have a polish from Wet N Wild called ATTEN-Hut!  This is from a new collection called Tough Girl.  I actually had no idea that this was a textured polish collection when I bought this. I don't know if I just didn't look at the display that well or if it wasn't noted, but I really had no idea and it wasn't on the bottle anywhere. I saw some swatches on another blog before I had tried mine and that's when I realized it was textured.

Wet N Wild ATTEN-Hut!

ATTEN-Hut! is a lovely olive green with gold shimmer. The formula on this was nice and I used 2 think coats. I have to say though that I really don't like the brush on these Wet N Wild bottles. They're really short and kind of fat. The cap is also really wide, making it somewhat hard to maneuver.

Wet N Wild ATTEN-Hut!

Wet N Wild ATTEN-Hut!

Just for kicks, I decided to add top coat to this manicure to see what it would like. I don't usually top coat my textured polishes (because that seems to defeat the purpose) but I was curious.

Wet N Wild ATTEN-Hut!

This was pretty gritty and I used 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat to get it smooth. I like this look though not as much as I liked it as a texture.

Wet N Wild ATTEN-Hut!

I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Even though I didn't know it was a textured polish when I bought it, I really like it. I have one more polish from this collection that I picked up and I am hoping it's as pretty as this one. Thanks for coming by today!

Cover Girl Black Heat

Friday, October 11, 2013

Hello! Last week I found a full display of the new Cover Girl Catching Fire Collection at my local CVS. They were also having a BOGO50 sale so you know I bought all 9 of the polishes.  This is my first time trying the new Cover Girl Glosstinis and I have to say that I like them. The bottles are tiny but the price point isn't bad, especially when there is a sale.

The first polish I tried out was Black Heat, a murky black with strong green undertones. The finish on this is a foil/glass fleck with tons of green and gold glitter. I found the pigmentation to be good and only needed 2 coats below, no top coat.

Oooh look at all those beautiful glittery bits.

I am a fan of foils and glass flecks so this polish was right up my alley. I like how the green and gold really came out in the sun and it had a lot of depth. If you like this finish or dark, olive-y shades then definitely give this one a try.

I hope to try out the other polishes in this collection soon. If they are all like this one, I think I am going to really like them. Is anyone else excited about the Catching Fire movie? To tell the truth it was my least favorite book in the series but the trailer looks good so I am sure I will see. Thanks for stopping in and have a great weekend!

China Glaze Howl You Doin'

Wednesday, October 9, 2013

Happy hump day! When I say the name of this polish in my head it comes out in the voice of Joey Tribiani from Friends - Howl You Doin'? :) China Glaze recently released their Halloween collection called Monsters Ball. I spotted them a couple of weeks ago at my local beauty supply store. I was trying to be good and only picked up a couple of polishes that really interested me.

China Glaze Howl You Doin'

Howl You Doin' is a dark purple jelly with flakie glitter pieces in blue and orange and maybe pink. There is also a bunch of small silver glitter in there that was hard to see on the nail but I really noticed when I was trying to remove this polish. There is a lot going on but the polish is sheer enough and really lets the flakes come through. If you are a fan of flakie glitter, I think you will like this one. I used 2 coats here

China Glaze Howl You Doin'

Then just for kicks I decided to throw on a matte top coat since I almost never use any of my matte top coats (and I have lots). Making it matte gave it a cooler, edgier look that I really liked.

China Glaze Howl You Doin'

I think I probably have a polish or two that is similar to this in my collection from when I bought up any flakie polish I could find. However, it's still a really fun polish and if you don't have a ton of flakie glitters, it might be a nice addition to the stash.

I only have one more polish from this collection to try. Of course it's the one with orange glitter in it. Has anyone else tried out this collection yet? Which is your favorite?

Stashed (8): Cover Girl Catching Fire Collection

Sunday, October 6, 2013

Hi, everyone! The only thing I have stashed this week is the new Cove Girl Hunger Games Catching Fire collection. I was lucky to run into an almost full display with the 9 polishes earlier this week at CVS. They were having a sale on Cover Girls as well so I was able to get all of these, after coupons, for about $20, Not bad. The bottles are really tiny. The covers are pretty great though if you like the foil/glass fleck finish. I have already tried a few of these and I really like them.

That's all I've stashed this week. I am trying to think of a fun mani for Halloween but haven't figured anything out yet. I love seeing all of the Halloween themed manis popping up though. It's getting me really excited about Halloween. Who doesn't love candy and costumes? Have a good weekend, everyone!

Zoya Pepper

Saturday, October 5, 2013

Hello again. I hope that you're all having a wonderful weekend. Surprisingly I don't really have any plans this weekend so I'll probably end up just lazing about the house. It's been a bit cloudy around these parts lately, hence the cooler one to my pics. I am not really great at color correcting so just let it be known that today's swatch pics were taken on a cloudy day.

Zoya Pepper is a reddish brown (brownish red?) creme from the Zoya Cashmere collection from this past fall. Zoya does some really awesome cremes and this one is a winner. This is a great color for fall. It totally reminds me of turning leaves and the rich, warm tones of the season. The formula on this was great and I used 2 coats below. I did use a top coat though it was already pretty shiny on its own.

I got this color when Zoya was doing their CAMO promotion. I bought some polishes and then got 4 free polishes from the Cashmere collection. Seriously, Zoya has the best promos. This probably would not be a color that I would normally get on my own. It's a little subdued for me. However, I am glad that I have it now and it's unique in my collection.

What are your favorite fall nail polish colors?
