Comic Book Inspired Nails

Friday, July 31, 2015

Hi, everyone. I hope that you're all having a fantastic summer. It's been a bit of a strange one, weather-wise for us. Lots of weird humidity has been happening. I've been pretty lazy with my nails as well. I have been doing my toes (since naked toes look kind of sad to me, esp in summer) but my fingernails haven't been getting too much attention. But I went to San Diego Comic-Con a few weeks ago and wanted to give myself an appropriate look. I decided to go with the classic comic strip look, Check out the details below.

SDCC 2015 Comic Manicure

I used 2 coats of Pahlish The Ghost Shift over a black creme as a base. I thought it needed the black to be opaque but The Ghost Shift was really pigmented and I could have just used that. I love how the holo sparkles in the sun.

Then, using stamping plate VL-011 from Vivid Lacquer, I stamped my nails in a random pattern trying to make each nail slightly different. I used a plain, black creme (American Apparel Hassid) for stamping.

My thumbnail was definitely my favorite. This manicure lasted quite a while. It was great for the full 5 days that I was at Comic-Con and stayed almost chip free for days afterwards. I really liked this manicure and would love to try it again sometime with brighter colors.

Have you ever done comic inspired nails? I'd love to see what you did to help me come up with more ideas for next year.

Pahlish Bad Wolf

Monday, February 24, 2014

Good morning! Hope you guys are off to a good start this weekend. I had a really fun weekend going to what is basically a knitting and fiber arts convention. It's one of my other hobbies besides nail polish. Anyhoo - today I another polish from the Of Space and Time collection from Pahlish. Pahlish Bad Wolf is a taupe-y nude. I guess I would call it putty. It's got a really cool pink shimmer running through it. Below is 2 coats with top coat.

I really like that the shimmer in this isn't hidden. You can definitely see it. It reminds me a little bit of Orly Nite Owl but with pink shimmer instead of I think the silver shimmer that Nite Owl has.

This is one of the more subtle shades in the collection and I like it a lot. It's neutral but still unique. Are you a fan of funky neutrals or do you prefer funkier shades? Let me know what you think in the comments. :)

Pahlish Mad Man with a Box

Thursday, February 20, 2014

Hello again. Look I am posting twice in one week. I am already doing better than I have been for the last few weeks. Let's see if I can keep it up. Today I am showing off another shade from the Of Space and Time collection from Pahlish. Pahlish Mad Man with a Box is a gorgeous deep blue with green undertones. This polish is filled with lots of purple, green and blue microflake glitter. This polish had great pigmentation. I used 2 coats below. It does dry with a somewhat matte finish so you will top coat to get it smooth and shiny.

I can see in my photos that my nails still look a little bumpy. I probably should have added another coat of top coat, but it looked OK to me at the time. And actually, I think it still looks pretty nice even if it is a little bumpy.

Once again I am really impressed with the Pahlish formula and the uniqueness of this shade. I am really glad I ordered this collection, and am excited to try out the rest. Did anyone else pick up this set? I haven't gotten Part 2 yet but have been eyeing it.  Thank you for stopping by!

Pahlish Lullaby Without End

Tuesday, February 18, 2014

Hi, everyone! I am sorry it's been so long since my last swatch post. Work's been super crazy and I just haven't had the energy to do a lot of swatching and photo editing in my off time. I am going to try to be better though, because I have lots of fun polishes I want to show you.

This week I have Pahlish Lullaby Without End to show you.  It's from the recent All of Space and Tinne collection. I'm rubbish at describing polishes but this is a bright cherry red that has a somewhat jelly consistency and is full of blue and red glitter. The Pahlish website describes it much better. Here is the description from the website.

Vivid coral red jelly that leans pink with soft shimmer and blue metallic glitter accented with iridescent orange hex.

This polish is really bright and fun. I love that the base isn't super sheer, nor is it so opaque that it obscures the glitters. The finish is just right. I didn't have to do any fishing for glitter. As I said, it's kind of jelly-ish so it's not going to be fully opaque unless you wear another shade underneath or use a lot of layers. I preferred to have that squishy jelly look and used 2 coats for these swatches. It is glitter so you'll need top coat to smooth it out. I think I just needed one coat of top coat.

sorry this is blurry

Blue and red is one of my favorite combos and I think this polish is gorgeous. It's my first foray into Pahlish and I'm already looking forward to my next order.

Did anyone else pick up this collection? Thanks for vising and have a lovely week!
